Unternehmen Wachsame Entschlossenheit

Insterburg, East Prussia, Monday, 17 October 1949 Podpolkovnik Yevgeny Savitsky had been with Schnelleinsetzbare Schwere Betriebsreparaturgeschwader 22 little more than a month, and if he had learned anything it was that his German hosts were thorough. He had worked on construction tasks in Siberia, in the Caucasus, and the steppes of Central Asia, and never had he seen a much mechanised equipment in use as here in the forests of East Prussia. The personnel of the unit were no mere labourers – a...

Philippine News and Events 1949

Manila, The American Embassy, Friday, 21 October 1949 Commander Trevor Stevens noted the headline blaring in that morning’s edition of the Philippine Herald. “DIPLOMATS EXPELLED FROM BEIJNG. RETALIATION FOR BOOTING OF WO FAT!” “That didn’t take much time.” He did not normally read the Herald, preferring the less partisan Times or Chronicle, but the Herald had a reputation for juicy if not always accurate details. The Chinese had in fact declared three members of the very small staff of the Phili...

German News and Events 1949

Lübecker Nachrichten, Thursday, 13 October 1949 Among the unsung heroes of naval aviation are those members of the aero industry engaged in aircraft maintenance and overhaul. While some normal repair and maintenance can be dealt with by mechanics at the unit level, serious repairs, and upgrades to the latest levels of equipment, must be done in a factory environment. Repair centres, like the one shown here at Tutow in Mecklenburg, are operated by Deutsche Lufthansa. This facility is overhauling ...

Quoted from "M_Fredi" What do you think about this stats? Should I add something else? ?( Length: 7,34 m Width: 2,41 Height: 2,62 Ground clearance: 250 mm Weight: 9800 kg Capacity: 5200 kg Speed: 65 km/h Range:290 km That's a rather hefty vehicle you are describing. If those are the performance stats for the picture you've included above, I draw the following conclusions. 1 - The unladen weight of the vehicle (which I interpret to be 9800 kg) is much too high. Add the cargo and you are asking t...

Unternehmen Wachsame Entschlossenheit

Berlin, The Russian Federation Embassy, Friday, 14 October 1949 Rarely had Pavel Kozyukhin had need to travel to the German capital, despite the length of time his destroyer flotilla had been assigned to Operation Pionier. Khrenov, the naval attaché, more commonly visited the Thirteenth Destroyer Flotilla, or they met at one of the German naval stations along the Baltic. The request that he travel to Berlin suggested that something was in the wind. After the obligatory pleasantries over tea Khre...

A Spectre Resurgent

Lubiana (Laibach), Tuesday, 11 October 1949 Tev Kronsteen had made the journey from Lugano to Lubiana a number of times, but he never took the trip for granted. The greatest danger – falling foul of the Italian customs authorities when crossing from Switzerland – he had avoided through long-standing arrangements with the senior officer for that sector. Since Italy treated its Slovene province as part of the Republic, his only concern was the possibility of rogue elements of the Camorra doing som...

Philippine News and Events 1949

Naval Operating Base Puerto Princesa, Thursday, 13 October 1949 Vice Admiral Suarez read the internal report on the recently approved naval law and smiled. Instead of useless aircraft carriers that would not see the water for years the bill funded the plans he had submitted for expanding the observation network in the Kayalaan Islands. It would take some weeks before the official paperwork for the anticipated work would catch up, but he made note of what he could put in train before official app...

In overall layout the design offered looks very much like the German leichte geländegängige Einheits-Lastkraftwagen, details of which can be found here.. Rather than opting for a 6x4 vehicle I would recommend a 6x6 configuration for better cross-country performance. Germany has a side range of motor vehicles available for either export or co-production. Germany assisted Turkey with the development of its indigenous automobile industry. Details of the proposed plan can be found here

Peruvian News and Events, 1949

Iquitos, Loreto, 8 October 1949 Felix Wankel had breathed a sigh of relief when the freighter Henry Horn dropped anchor in the port of Iquitos, for she bore the bulk of the remaining components required to complete the assembly of the modular floating dry dock his team had worked on for nearly a year. The vessel carrying the pumps, motors, and ancillary gear was due to arrive in only a few weeks. They were due to turn the dock over to the Peruvian Navy at the end of December, and it would be a r...

German News and Events 1949

Quoted from "Brockpaine" Slight change of topic, but... Where did you find all of those divisional badges for the Heer? Are there other armies available as well? Most of them I found here. Some I created out of bits and pieces found there or elsewhere on the web. And some have color changes. Don't ask me for a proper blazon of a lot of them, as European heraldry is out of my league. But yes, you will find stuff there for many other nations/services. Thanks for asking. It adds color to the game....

German News and Events 1949

Quoted from "Brockpaine" Quoted from "BruceDuncan" London, The German Embassy, Tuesday, 11 October 1949 Walter Schellenburg finished The Times article with brief laughter. The article on the British Army’s adoption of a new machinegun was interesting enough – and he made a mental note to investigate further – but the fact that is was to employ the 8mm Mauser cartridge was ironic indeed. Having employed the .303 cartridge for sixty years the British Army would now replace it with two – their new...
